Plan your garden

Where will you place your compost pile? How far apart do your vegetables or herbs need to be? The seed packets will carry this information.

Decide on these things first: How many rows you need, what shape your garden will be in, will they be raised planters or beds, how will you mark each row?

Have the markers ready to label each row in your garden as you plant your seeds or small starts.

What to plant?

To decide what to plant in your garden think about the location of the land, climate and content of soil.

Cold weather climate:
  • Peas
  • Thyme
  • Tarragon
  • Artichokes
  • Beets
  • Broccoli
  • Brussels sprouts
  • Spinach
  • Onions
Warm weather climate:
  • Potatoes
  • Tomatoes
  • Squash
  • Beans
  • Cucumbers
